taxing lawn clients?

    first year in, mowing 60 residential yards, planning on going legal next summer (lic, insur, w/c).. DOES SALES TAX APPLY ON LAWN WORK? ANY OF IT?

    For any servise no sales tax applies.

    But if you sell a product you should be charging sales tax on the product sold.

    Income tax....yes, you damn well better pay!

    If your really serious about going legit, consult a lawyer. They can review all your bid/estimate documents and make sure your safe on the legal front.

    Actually it depends on where you live. I'm required to collect sales tax on lawn mowing here. But certain services I offer are not taxable.

    Gogetter is right -- the matter is a state-by-state issue. In our area, there is even a distinction from county to county (one county keeps 1% of the state collection).

    Check with your accountant. They can get you in touch with the right state agency to apply for a license, how to submit, etc.

    our state doesn't apply sales tax to services yet but we sure do pay state and federal taxes. They want their piece of your pie and you had better keep careful records of expenses and income.

    totally incorect, state to state, in ohio if you make more then 5000, you must collect sales tax, there is alot more to this then just putting out flyers and mowing lawns.....
