    There are different types of "telemarketing". If you are in Tucson and someone from Indianapolis is calling you to buy magazines, that is one thing. If you are a local company, not afraid to show yourself on caller ID, with a live person looking to have a conversation, then yes, telemarketing of this type is different.

    It is all in the approach - calling at the right time, calling for a reason, calling to generate a potential lead versus randomly calling people at dinner time and 8 am to sell them an ice dispenser that hooks to your gas grill.....then yes, it is definitely different.

    Some of the largest (and even some of the smaller) and most respected companies in this industry use the phone as a tool to grow their business.

    Again, it's all in the approach.
