Tell it to me straight...Am I a Dope?

3827 Views 39 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  Wet_Boots
Let's say I have to replace a spray body,I twist it out with the Channelocks, see that it was installed with a nipple.I coat the female threads of the new body with some Rectorseal(just the right amount),then spin it back down.No muss,no fuss.

In an open hole,I use tape. It's the "Use No Dope" thing that bothers me.

Should I watch my back?

You don't need the paste dope period, unless you have a bad case of limp wrists. Old paste dopes were never intended to contact plastic, which wasn't in plumbing use when the paste dopes were formulated.
Only ROTAR has the wrist problem, the newer dope is made for plastics.
Major diss :waving: ~ When those stickers first appeared, a lot of paste dopes were original formulas, and death to some plastics.
You just don't have horrible leakage at heads threaded onto bare sch 80 risers. In olden days there was even an adjustable riser brass head that used 'straight' pipe threads to connect to the similarly-threaded brass riser nipple.
He sounds like the Fimco-Meister of the plumbing world (no offense).
Piker.....
