Termite control

LawnSite Member
We bought a house about a year ago with some old landscape timbers in the front yard. Yesterday, my wife noticed a termite swarm on the old wood. I took pictures, and can verify that it is indeed termites, not just flying ants.

Is there any option to getting rid of these guys other than calling the orkin man?

If the flying ants are big black ones.. then it is likely that they are queen carpenter ants... just as bad as termites..

our first year in our house, we had carpenter ants get inside and had the exterminator come and blast the basement.. Since then, I use the Ortho Termite and Carpenter Ant stuff around my foundation... fill a 2 gal sprayer and just soak the foundation and the area near it.. also spray the rock wall and any other places these guys hide... Since then, not 1 ant in the house..

If it's not really near the house, I'd try the Ortho stuff first for $20... then call the Orkin man if you need to..
