Thatcher teeth - solid or spring

    I've been thatching for 6 seasons with my Encore solid teeth thatcher, and I can never help but rip out some small pieces of the lawn. I know what I'm doing, and I never go too deep, it's just that with the solid teeth you have no "cushion" when you come to a high spot. I know with the springs you can get away with the uneveness more, debating aerating instead. What have you found to be the most all around efficent. Can you get as much money aerating as you do thatching? By the way, I'm still using the original solid teeth, and I'm not at my lowest setting yet..
