I need some assistance with a lawn problem. The turf is fairway 4 and has been established 4 years. This spring it seems the grass is very dense so much so that I have some dead brown patches. I treated accordingly for the brown patches thinking that was the problem. A neighbor recommended de-thatching possibly to thin out the density of the turf. I never heard of this.

the brown spots are probably from all the rain we have had the past 2 weeks, I'm starting to see some dollar spot fungus in the lawns. I would recommend core aeration to relieve the thatch, detaching does more harm than good in most cases. give it a good balanced slow release fertilizer and mow high and it should recover on its own.
