Granules are used for shade lawns and liquid is used for sun, according to TGCL here.
If you are only selling a lawn fertilization program than 4 visits is fine. My customers want more than that. More visits means better weed control, as well as much quicker identification of potential problems. Part of what my customers are paying for is expertise and you can't diagnose problems or make suggestions if you aren't on the lawn. I know of companies that charge for "evaluation" visits, and there is nothing wrong with this as long as value is being provided to the customer.
I just talked to a friend who told me his usual guy just sent him a renewal for 2010. 5 apps for 30,000 sq.ft . 300.00 if he pays after end of feb. If he pays now 260.00 bucks for the year, or $52.00 per app. Thats 1.73 per 1000/sq.ft . Just doesnt seem possible. Sure you guys run into this all the time, maybe his is skipping apps or going super thin.
