The Spider Webs of August...

i feel your pain, on an hourly basis. it gets old after the first one!

Uuuugghhh.. I know exactly what you mean. It gives me the creeps when that happens. And you're right. There's a lot of them out now.

Some may be them silk worms, The green catipillar things that hang from the trees.

I am sick of all the different things that bite. Seems like every day I will squash a bug that is chewing on me that I have never seen before.

I have noticed far less webs and insects of all kinds this year.

I think the worst, are biting flies....too fast to swat! And they always come back for more.

Got nailed by one of these -------- on the golf course Sunday - right behind the knee, so every time I took a step the sweat rolled onto the bite

Here, we're blessed with Black Widows, Brown Recluses, many more poisonous ones, and some suckers that are 7" big! Big ole yellow and black scary looking things. Said to feed on the blood of horses. Horse Spiders is the common name, no clue on the real name. Imagine running into a HUGE web and seeing one of those things crawling up the web towards you. I guess if they're not afraid of horses.....AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

Yup, spiders suck.

It is a strong sign that Fall is just around the corner. I have the same problem in my area as well. The spiders are fattening up for the Fall and Winter.

Hey Guys, I have a question...do you feel there is any truth to the saying (mostly by farmers) that when the flies are biting, a storm is coming? I do not mean to sound like a hick asking this, and maybe it is just the power of suggestion, but it seems to me that this is possible...what do you think? Maybe something to do with the barometric pressure dropping??

also, had a customer refer to those biting flies as "deer flies" today, never heard that before.

I hate those things too. We in mo have the big black and yellow ones too. I don't know what there called here (except scary). Sometimes when I run into those webs it feels like they're gonna pull right off my mower! I got bit through the shirt by a horse fly the other day, 3 times! I have 3 big welps on my back now. I hate those things.

I think that there is some truth to that saying. I think ordinary house flys bite much more when the barometer is on the rise and the humidity level goes up. Usually that means there is a chance of rain too.
Deer flys have the wings that have little black triangles on them and the wings are spread out like a fighter jet. When they bite, it seems much worse than when a house fly bites.

I saw this lawn guy riding on a turf tiger one day and stopped to ask him why he had a fishing pole tied to the front of his mower. He said he did that to knock down spider webs before they got in his face. The pole was attached to the frame of his mower and pointing straight up near the front wheels. I thought i might do that on both sides to avoid the constant face wiping and freaking out when I see the inch long spider on my shirt.

Logan we did the same thing with 4wheelers, only we used cb antennas.
