I hate those things too. We in mo have the big black and yellow ones too. I don't know what there called here (except scary). Sometimes when I run into those webs it feels like they're gonna pull right off my mower! I got bit through the shirt by a horse fly the other day, 3 times! I have 3 big welps on my back now. I hate those things.

I think that there is some truth to that saying. I think ordinary house flys bite much more when the barometer is on the rise and the humidity level goes up. Usually that means there is a chance of rain too.
Deer flys have the wings that have little black triangles on them and the wings are spread out like a fighter jet. When they bite, it seems much worse than when a house fly bites.
