Thoughts on a weed eater attachment that has chains?

We got this commercial job that has some ridiculous thick areas around their sidewalk we need to clean up. We've tried really good thick string that normally knocks down brush, but this one just has dirt/mud built-up from the years. We heard about a chain attachment, but have never seen anyone use it. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it worth the money?

if you can post a few pics of the areas you described, you'll be more likely to get the best advice to help solve your problem. With the combined years of experience on this forum, most likely someone else has been confronted with similar issue.
