Tip Of The Day - 8/29/05 - Plant Grouping Strategy

    Many people are tempted to use color as the primary organizing principle when planning any sort of landscape that is dominated by perenials. It definitely should be a consideration, but plant material should be grouped by other criteria first:

    texture, mass, lines of the landscape, sun/shade, maturity possibilities, etc.

    I would group as the following order,
    environmental conditions
    water requirements
    sun-shade
    size
    color
    texture :D

    I always make sure I know which colors the clients love or hate - first thing. The rest follows.
