Recently purchased an almost new Scag SWZ 48 WB. It’s has a mulch kit installed. It also has the Velocity Plus deck, which to my understanding, really throws the clippings.

In my area, I do some damp mowing, either from rain or irrigation (at times), but it is Central Texas. A large majority of grass is St Augustine, some Bermuda.

I have “bogged” down on some thicker St Aug, a quick deck adjustment and i was good. Having never run it without the mulch kit, wanting opinions. Is there a better set up for it (no mulch kit)?

I would never run a mulch kit in St. Augustine, that stuff is way too thick. What height are you mowing at? I would hope 3.5 or higher in St. Augustine.

3.5. The thick area was due to aerobic septic aeration. Really cut the rest well.
