I've been looking for equipment racks for some time now. Is the best on on the market the Gator racks? Any suggestions are appreciated. I've even thought about fabricating my own. How many of you have done that?

work_it, what's/who's got Gator racks?
The racks that I see most are trimmer traps.
It's a little time consuming, but with some forethought you can custom build racks for your trailer/equipment needs that are much heavier and more secure than anything I've seen on the market.
Don't remember who, but under trailer forum I think, there's some really nice pics from a home made unit. Search using racks, maybe 2 months ago.

Ron-Lots of that going on around here lately. I'm in the Huntington area and there have been some major thefts lately. These aren't amateurs, these are pros. I've been lucky, and my yard is secure. But it's probably only a matter of time. Glad you saw these guys and they took off. Mike

Glad to hear you 'got lucky' this time. A tip for all of us, carry a ball boint pen or golf pencil on the job. Most of us carry business cards. Put them to use or write on your arm or hand. We always need to write a note about something. In Rons' case, a plate number, truck or personal desription. The cost of our equipment, even a trimmer, makes these thefts a felony (jail time) in most states. Most of the sum balls stealing from us, pros or not, are repeat theives, working the same areas we do. Keep your eyes open and write what you see down, to keep it straight, and then report it to the Police/Sherriff. They really will help us if we can give them some basic info. Bits and peices of info. from several of us, put together, can and does lead to arrests. I know kicking the crap out of these low lifes would make us feel better but, this the best way to stop this crap and keep us out of jail. Believe it or not, Cops are people just like us and they don't like seeing people being ripped off either. If these theives like lawn equipment so much, lets help put these scum bag scrubs to work for us. Yaah, working on the county chain-gang. Get to work. (And be carefull!) End of lecture.

After my Shindaia blower and 5 gallon gas can were stolen, I bought a video camera. There are only 2 lawns that I cut that the truck is out of my sight. I set the camera on the head rest (crew cab) of the rear seat and cover with a towel. You can't see the camera because of the window tint. If anyone even walks by the truck, their face is crystal clear!

i have a large probably at least 1/2 inch thick plastic coated steel cord along with the biggest master lock made that i loop through all my equipment when i mow (usually) also it's a good idea to use a trailer hitch ball lock and a hitch lock (they make pins that lock and require a key) My $.02

I can just see it now.. you'll be posting that someone smashed your side window and stole your vcr camera. <G> OR you forgot to put the truck windows up and the camera just walked with no window damage at all. <G>

Shot guns work better than cameras...unfortunately you go to jail for taking a shot at someone and not for taking a pic of someone...oh well.

Enclosed Trailer will stop the "snatch N run" boyz IF you keep it closed BUT if a larcenous person REALLY wants your goodies it will be tough to stop them (battery powered sawsall + side of trailer = big hole). Be safe and try to think like a crook when leaving your trailer un attended.

The Captain suggested a golf pencil, better yet a golf ball.
"I remember seeing a dent/broken back window on the the vehicle as it was driving away. I'm sure I could identify it again if I saw it officer, it was the kind of dent a golf ball would leave behind." :)
