I need to bid a job this weekend its a 8500 sqft fescue lawn on clay soil. I'm going to aerate a topdress it with sand. How much sand would I need and what would be the best way to spread it. I don't have a riding mower or something to pull a spreader on the lawn with besides myself. I have a cage roller, drop spreader(scotts), broadcast spreader(eartway c22r), or just a plain wheel barrow and shovel. Please let me know how long you think it would take with this device. Everthings flat and easy accessible.

    Thank You,

I realize that we are on opposite sides of the country, but are you sure that you want to put sand on clay? Here in Virginia that is the basic recipe for bricks. Just thinking that you might want to add some organic material to your topdressing to improve the clay.

I dont recall what the composaition was but when I worked for Garden CenterInc in Manteca(northern ca) when I was in HS we used to sell a product called PayDirt. This was a soil ammendment.

You should check with your local nursery and see what they recommend for this.

    Good Luck this season!
