My Toro 8-25 riding mower makes a screeching or "chugging" noise and will only cut on the highest setting (5) when the deck is engaged. The same symptom happened last year without the noise, and I replaced the drive belt, which seemed to solve the problem. I'd like to believe I don't have replace this expensive belt every year. The grass has been thick, and as soon as it hits the grass it begins making the noise. Any ideas as to what may be the problem? I love this little machine! Thanks, Mike

I have the same machine, sounds like your blade belt is slipping. THere is an alignment procedure for it, will dig it out once I'm back home. If the belt has the proper tension, I would check the idler pulley and the spindle.
