Toro Pers. Pace - Is a mulch plug really that important?

Searched but couldn't find anything on this. Recently restored a 2005 Toro Personal Pace (a model made before Toro invented the convenient blue lever/door for mulching/bagging). It did not come to me with a mulch plug although it would have shipped new with one. Does the plug really create better mulching? I ask this because it seems that the rear door flap creates a mulching environment in that it also blocks the discharge of grass from the deck. I can see where the plug would keep virtually all grass under the deck whereas some, but not much, grass passes into the space between the deck and the flap. I'll buy a plug if it truly improves mulching but thought I'd get some opinions here first.

    Yes, it helps.

I used to own one and without the plug the grass that gets packed into the chute will fall out in clumps occasionally. It still worked but I think it would have looked a little cleaner if I had a plug.
