    Howdy everyone
Just wondering how many guys out there have had tough times and hardships and been able to pull through and how you did it.
I will give you my story.

I have been mowing for about 5 years just part time as I have another full time job. I started just to make some extra cash and I enjoyed mowing and working outdoors so it made sense. I am just a solo operation and do plenty to stay very busy. This past summer struck a huge blow to me. At one of my jobs I had an accident. Somehow someway I ended up with a rusty nail shot into the back of my leg. At first I didn't know what happened. I thought my calf had been hit with a piece of a stick and cut it pretty good. I was stupid and wrapped it with an old t-shirt I had in the truck to stop the bleeding and went on with my job. Then the next 3 lawns as well. By the end of the day I could hardly walk. Skipping to the point a few days later I had surgery to remove a nail from the leg. To make matters worse I ended up back in the hospital with an infection for 4 more days. Thankfully my dad was able to cover for me while I healed for a few weeks so I didn't lose my customers. It could have been a lot worse than it was, but the ridiculous hospital bills are bad enough for me. Thankfully I have insurance through my full time job. By the way it took me 3 days in the hospital before I got my tetanus shot for a rusty nail in my leg. Can you say absurd?

Sorry for making the post so long. Anyone out there have similar stories?

I have had 6 major surgeries and my heart stopped 3 times in a 5 year period. Dorung that same period to which i was found passed out on the floor in a pubble of blood each time because my face broke my fall. What you went through i would just call a speed bump :) Glad your ok.

Just count your blessings, It could have been a lot worse.

Your story though brings up a good point. If you run into any cocky business owner who's says they started from nothing, with no help from anyone, basically they are full of crap and not acknowledging or being grateful for the little things people do for you, such in your case as your father helping you out in a tough moment.

This isn't a medical problem but it was an eye opening event for me.Ten years ago I decided to invest in real estate, after listening to a win win sales pitch from what I thought was a friend.I bought a liscenced rooming house. The rental income never came close to what he promised,I had to come up with money to meet the bills and was constantly in court doing evictions.I got quite depressed over the situation and finally sold it for a loss of 25G just to get rid of the headache.Anyway I learned a valuable lesson from this, never trust anyone who promises you a sure thing. There are many people who will flat out lie to you and steal your hard earned money and not think twice about it.When a friend says trust me I wouldn't cheat you, don't believe him,he's already got his hand in your pocket.

This last week (week before christmas, our busiest week) I have the flu so bad its bordering on pneumonia. I obviously havent been able to work all week, lost well over $3000 in income but I rang my customers and explained the situation. They were all very cool about it, told me to take it easy, get well and see you when your better.

Point is, if you explain your situation most realistic customers (people) should be understanding enough and realise your only human. If they freak, they arent worth keeping!

Im just hoping I get well enough to do at least a few days work next week. Im grounded, no christmas for me, no drinking, no socialising etc etc. DVD's in front of the TV on my own! Now that sucks! Wife and kid are going to our friends place to feast on seafood!
But, im on the mend, no pneumonia. I am happy about that. Merry Christmas!

    Tetanus comes from the earth.
Every-one go to your Doctor or clinic and get a shot. They're good for ten years and they're cheap.
