i have the opportunity to bid this town home development. It is right across the street i live on. I am fairly new to bidding bigger projects and would like some thoughts from you guys and gals.
it gets mowed once a week trimmed and blow. I am a single person crew with a 60" ex-mark and echo trimmers and stihl blowers.

the pic is old off google earth i drew the buildings in that were missing so you can kind of get the idea.

Would it be wrong to think it would take me 2 days to do this project?

thoughts?

I think this is way over your head to be honest....I was solo with a 61'' TT back in the day and I could have never handled this...this is going to be wayyyyyy too much work for a solo let alone a crew of 3...not trying to bash JMO...you can get in over your head on these developments on the clean ups and mulch, weeding, fertilizer etc.

Put in your bid and if you get it then look to hire at least 3 qualified guys part time for a day or two. I am sure in this economy that 2 days worth of work is better than no days worth of work. Problem is, the community probobly will want insurance and workmans comp. so thats something else you may wanna look into. I know a guy who does a smaller place like the one your bidding with tons and tons of plants. They pay him $8500 a month and thats his only job, he goes there 5 days a week and works. He figured it cost him around $1500 a month in gas, so he is making pretty good money and all the people there like him. So if your looking at a one man job then you may be able to do it if you put in the days. Anything is possible.:weightlifter:

Put your bid in and then see what works best for you and the customer. It looks like a nice size project. If need be like mentioned before hire a guy or two or just do it yourself. Im sure either way it will pay decent. Just a matter of what else you have to get mowed.

having all your eggs in one basket can be a bad thing too.

I agree, your 'portfolio' of accounts would not be very diversified if you took this on, eating up a whole day or more of your time.

First off if it's only the orange block area a solo guy can get it done under a day. The only area you would want to do quickly is where the row of backyards pare up. Just section the areas and complete each section through the day. My bet after doing them 3 times you will be out in 6 to 7 hrs. Bring a college kid for trimming and it will be even quicker.

If this is your first bigger account do the bid and find out where you stand. Starting something smaller would be ideally though.
