CGA, It was the same thing in Florida with the St Augustine...Id rather skip trimming, but not the edging in the growing season..

up here in DC. you can edge 3x a year and be OK but don skip trimming int he spring. the fescue grows like a weed..

It's not nearly as easy to skip a week when the grass grows a foot a week (Bahia).

I guess the St Augustine grows faster in Louisiana.............

well i'm cutting kentucky blue grass and tall fescue. and most any time the trimming could be skipped if need be.

it might not be there prettiest looking by skipping it but i don't think it's the worst thing.

I'm leaning towards buying a dedicated trimmer probably the Stihl 90 series, (although I can get an older 80 series for just over a hundred dollars from my local dealer with a 1 year warranty) and a Stihl combo unit (model?) to use as a edger and back up trimmer.

I've learned a lot and I sure appreciate all the feedback I have received.

    Sounds like a good plan!

Here in Iowa missing 1 week of trimming during the rainy season is probably not that big of a deal. But if you quoted your customer a weekly mow and trim you probably have some splaining to do. Communication is the key.

I have family in Moss Point Miss... the St aug grew just as fast I know since I had to cut when I was a kid when I visited... :) in a perfect world I would not want to skip either trimming or edging.

a homeowner will notice lack of trimming before they notice lack of edging...but form a labor standpoint...two weeks worth of missed trimming won't take any longer to trim than a weeks worth, but two weeks of missed edging will add some a Bermuda or st Augustine lawn..

Bermuda is the Kudzu of the grass species. You can feed it just about anything and it can take it...even gasoline just stunts it.
