For NJ Stakeholders in the Landscape Lighting legislation, here's an update:

We've had two scheduled hearings before Assembly committees. In both cases, hundreds of contractors called committee members to voice their support. There were few, if any, calls in opposition of our amendment. Legislators were almost certainly ready to allow speedy passage.

Unfortunately, in both cases, the electrical union (and/or their friends) managed to block our participation in the hearings and our amendment did not make it on the agendas. The latest delay was due to a request that we change the language of the amendment to definitively state that electricans must supply the 120-volt supply to the transformer.

The summer break starts in a few days so our next opportunity to go before committee will be in the fall. That gives us a couple months to further strengthen our position and to fill our war chest with the funds we need to continue the lobbying effort.

Many thanks to those of you who took time to make the calls to the legislators. They made a huge difference and Assembly committee staffers were very impressed with our grass roots efforts. Legislators keep a tally of all calls that come into their offices and it does affect how they vote on any issue.

I'll keep you updated on what's needed this summer and will ask for your phone calling efforts again in the fall.

Again, on behalf of the NJGIC, thanks for your help up to this point. Feel free to PM me if you like to be more actively involved.
