OK just trying to see how close this guy is to actual value. It is a 99 7.3L diesel f-450 5spd XL 78K miles. It comes with 9ft dump, 9ft plow, dump has metal leaf box about 4ft tall. Appears OK, worked, but OK. Carfax listed 18 reports, but didn't want to pay $20 to find out what they were. They are asking $22,900.
Yes it is the one in mass. Please tell me more. No I wouldn't buy it blindly. I was just talking to the dealer about it today. I can get the report free from them that's why I am not spending the 20 bucks. So what's up with the truck?
We bought an '01 F450 2 months ago, 7.3 Powerstroke, Automatic, 4x4, 12' flatbed with power Tommy Gate, 2 underbody toolboxes with 74K miles for $22,000. We bought it locally from a friend in the business, didn't really feel like hassling him down on the price. Really, the truck is worth about $20,500 or so, but I didn't want to bust the guy we bought it from, we do a ton of business with him.
A F-450 can carry 8000lbs a F-350 can not the 99 and newer F-450s run the 19.5 wheels and tires they last longer.
The days are gone when a F-350 is a do all truck they are pretty much too small now they don't have the gvw. I went to F-450 trucks almost 6 years ago I won't run a 1 ton truck anymore its not worth it. The trucks I use are the OBS F-450s they carry the same amount of weight or more than the 99 and newer F-450s. I'am looking at a "Super Duty" F-450 but its hard to swallow spending 45,000 dollars on a 2wd F-450 6.0 spd cab and chassis. Thats what they cost here by the time you add a dump body it pushes the price up another 7000 dollars.
If I wanted a XLT F-450 4x4 cab and chassis with a 165 wheebase I'am looking at 48,000 dollars CND.
I'am having on HELL of a time finding a used 99-2002 F-450 I can't find anything. I'am also looking for a 97 F-450 with low kilometers I do like the OBS (old body style) trucks. I would like to have a 4x4 so I would need a 99 or newer truck.
My F450 is rated for 19,000 which is really nice, but the damn thing weighs 10K pounds with a full tank of fuel and a full 100 gallon transfer tank. I really want to cut that stupid Tommy Lift off to save some weight, I never use it, but my old man owns the truck, it's just a company truck to me.

The trucks in the US are cheap and look enticing but its a SOB to import a truck to Canada that is less than 15 years old. The gov't rules and regulations and the extra costs your pretty much bent over the barrel with your pants down.
So I'am still searching around B.C. for one I have found a F-550 4x4 flat deck PSD but its got 230,000kms (143,000 miles) its too many for me for the price they want. Just because its a 4x4 doesn't make it worth 5000 dollars more than it should be. I'am debating do I really need a F-550 they don't get the best for mpg because of the rear axle gearing plus they are sprung a little heavy. The brakes on a F-450 are the same size as a F-550 so the stopping power is the same you can add Timbren Rubber Springs to help with the carrying capacity. The big difference is the older F-550s run the 135 Dana which has a removable center section its a pretty beefy axle. The F-450 runs a Dana 80 with 11,000lb rating a good axle its not as heavy as the 135 that has a 13.5" ring gear thats big the Dana 80 is 11.25 ring gear.
I never had a problem with a Dana 80 my 3 F-Superduty trucks have the Dana 80 its rated at 11,000lbs. You can put a good load on the trucks the problem is the 16" wheels don't allow for bigger brakes.
GR, I'm getting about 10 MPG with my setup around town, about 14 MPG highway as I mentioned before. I wince at the around town MPG's, but I only put about 100 miles on it a week and I only drive it to jobs that I'm getting paid for, therefore it's not a personal vehicle so all my fuel expenses have been compensated for in the bid.
If I find a truck it would be light as possible to keep the mpg up I wouldn't have the truck weighing as much as a service truck like your dads truck is set up. A F-450 with a 11' dumping flat shouldn't weigh anymore than 9000lbs my current truck is 8400lbs.
I do know the "Super Duty" bodies are heavier because the cabs are bigger also the newer F-450s run the 19.5 wheels they are slightly heavier the fuel tank is 40 gallons.
With the flatbed, I'm sure my truck would weigh in at about 9,000 pounds. But the lift gate weighs at least 500 and I'm toting around 100 gallons of diesel in a transfer tank as well.
Hey Jazak, that truck seems pretty decent for the price. Looks like it is in good shape. I would like to get a dump this year (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, it doesn't matter). I just need some free time to actually go out and look at them. Actually, I like the 02's because they are the last trucks that came with the 7.3, and they are new enough where they weren't worked too much.
Do you know the guy who is selling it? Or was it yours? Just wondering why you post this truck in particular. Maine is a little far from me, though, not sure if I'd drive all the way up there to look at a truck, but who knows.
Gravel Rat, is your 450 used as a personal truck too? If so, how is it using a vehicle like that as both a work and personal vehicle?
My 95 F-450 is the OBS truck it has the 16" wheels everybody thinks the truck is a F-350 4x4 even the cops they don't realize its a 15,000lb gvw truck. Yes its my daily driver too I don't notice the rough ride this is my 3rd F-450 OBS and I have ran F-350 flatdecks for years and the F-450 rides smoother because the rear springs are longer.
I was told the 99 and newer F-450s ride a little rougher because the 19.5 tires are stiffer being lower profile sidewall compared to 16" wheels.
The newer F-450s (99 and newer) with the 19.5 wheels really makes it catch the DOT mans eye so they can pinch you for overloaded truck. With me they have to really have a good look and by that time I'am too far past them they don't bother stopping me.
See with our rules here in B.C. Canada any truck with a gvw over 12,000lbs is classed as commercial so the DOT can put you though the ringer so they can give you over weight fines etc. Once you get those SOBs looking over your truck they will start nit picking for every minor problem. Once they find something the write you up a notice of inspection which means you have to fix the problem and take the truck to get certified by a licensed mechanic to say its been repaired.
I have hauled some pretty ugly loads on my trucks, what I mean is loads that are way over length or over width or very very heavy.
Would I go back to a F-350 or a regular 1 ton not a chance its not worth the risk of running overloaded I have been there done that and have had some close calls with not being able to stop. I'am not going to do that again its too stressfull.

I posted this truck in paticular because out of all the others I have found its the nicest and for a pretty decent price since they put on a NEW 9' dumpbed. The only reason I didn't go up and purchase it was because I need a F-550 or F-650. Since it was a good truck thought I should put it up for you guys since we are always buying "new" trucks. :clapping:
And no I don't know the guy and its not my truck.
BTW thereason the dumpbed is NEW is becuase I think the guy said it had a rack body on it and the thought it would sell faster with a dump on it.
Still looks like a great truck. Well, I better think it over before it's gone.
