Using permeable base under nonpermeable pavers

    One other note I too question how you get the open chip into the bottom of the joints during pre-compaction if the pavers aren’t permeable-friendly ie with larger spacer bars for larger voids.

    We use 3/4 clean and replace sand with 3/8 chips. This has worked out great. I believe 3/4 clean is around 80% +- compacted just by dumping it out and spreading. I could be wrong don't quote me. look at the stone under train tracks. Also both 3/4 clean and 3/8 chips don't hold moister like ca6 and sand do. Win win in my book.

    We have used clear stone in step construction for years now. I also know of a few contractors using clear stone for all applications.
