Walker blowing out leaves??

I am getting a little frustrated with my Walker. Now that the leaves are falling, when I mow and want to pick up the leaves as well, it is leaving a windrow of clipped leaves that it spits out of both sides of the deck. It has a 48" collection deck on. I pulled the deck to make sure it was clean, I checked the boot attached to the rear of the deck for damage, made sure the deck vents at the rear corners of the deck we're clean and also checked the vent in the hopper. With about 50 percent coverage of dry leaves, I slow down to a crawl and still get bits of leaves that the blades are flinging out going forward from the ends of the deck. Any thoughts?

at what height are you cutting?
the higher you cut, the farther the deck is from the surface and the less complete suction there is.

Also your RPM/engine speed could be suffering for some reason.

What height/how lush is the grass?

Typically you want to be cutting 1/3 the height of the grass, then your suction is good.... if you are just hovering over 1.5" high dormant lawn, expecting to suck up everything.... you might be disappointed.

In my experience a faster pace and a double cut is a better strategy.

Thanks guys. I dropped the deck and tried the 1st pass just blowing them back out. at first, I hated to spend the time and fuel for 2 trips around the lawn but overall I think it was faster going at normal speed twice than creeping along like I was before and still not getting a nice clean swipe.
