Let's say I buy a brand new 2008 Walker MT-GHS with the 26efi. and a 48" deck. No other bells and whistles or options. After two seasons/years of light residential use I end up having approx. 200-300 hrs. on the unit and it's in immaculate shape with all maintenance performed as scheduled.

What would you think it would bring if I were to sell???

On a side note...are the cast iron gear boxes (option) worth the money on a 48 GHS deck??? Why??? What is the additional cost???

Your Walker dealer has a "bluebook" that walker puts out for market value on used machines, see if he will help you out.

Not an expert by any means,

But I bought a 1993 MTGHS last fall for $2500

then bought a 2001 MCGHS this summer for $2000 (this machine cuts like nothing I have owned, but it has been a maintenance nightmare, I hope I am about at the end of fixing it, cause I really like using it)

last week I bought a brand new MTGHS, I really think that it will depreciate $2000 by next summer and probably another $1000 a year after that for a few years.

depreciation according to the sales market not as per your accountant
value falls 50% in quick time 3-5 years
depreciation levels off and only slightly falls next 3 years
if machine is still in good repair [most are not ] there is some value in a older unit 7-10 years old
guess 10% per year depreciation of the purchase amount on average
Be warned walkers are expensive to fix when old

Fully rebuilt diesel 8 year old around 40% of new
My own machines gaser is around 30-40% of new although it is 12 yr old it is in very good order .Machines that are around 20% of new are typically wrecks

i have a love/hate relationship with my walker, ive had nothing but problems with the thing all year, but when it was running right it cut grass and picked up everything on the lawns unbelievable.... Now the engine finally blew up and its gonna cost me another 2000 grand on top of the 2000 ive put into it this year...its an 01 walker ghs with 1500hrs, and i was told its worth about 5 grand (running good of course) oh well...guess i gotta fix it over the winter
