I live in southern tennessee. my lawn consist mostly of crab grass and weeds with alot of shade. i'd like to know what would be the best grass to sew, and the steps to do it as well as the time of year it should be done. never done this before, so any detailed information you could give me such as seed, fert, equipment, etc would greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

Mitch, you're going to have a problem with the shade - not much grows good in the shade. To start with though, you might want to take a soil sample to the county extension office for testing. They'll be able to tell you what amounts of fertilization you need.
