Wanting to form a peer group

Okay...so I just got back yesterday from GIE Expo and want to start immediately to implement one of the ideas I took away from the show...peer groups.

I want to form a mastermind group of 4-6 guys around the country who are all in the same position as far as where we are in size of companies to network 3 to 4 times per year, hold each other accountable and help each other grow.

I am a one truck operation right now with 2 to 3 part time guys. We mow two to three days per week and spend the rest of the week on landscaping. Hopefully we can go to two to three different divisions by next year. Lawn mowing, landscaping, and possibly lawn care. I would like enough lawns for two guys all week so that I can focus on landscaping and lawn care divisions. We are in Western Ky and I would like to keep the members of the group far enough away from each other so there is no competition between us. That would help with being open about our business.

If this sounds like something any of you guys want to do, let me know and we can start forming a peer group!

I'm interested. I'm in Dayton, OH. We should be far enough away where competition shouldn't be a problem.

What is a peer group? How does it work? Isn't lawnsite one big peer group?

I think the purpose of a peer group is to be mostly proactive and constructive criticism. I dont' know if everything I see on this forum would constitute as "constructive". He might also have something in mind relating to interaction outside of this site, such as emails, possible phone calls...

You're exactly right GC. This is a new idea for me too but I think starting off, the goal would be to get together physically at least once per year and quarterly via Google hangout, skype or phone.

I want this to be a group where we lay it all out and be very transparent in our businesses to help push each other forward and bounce ideas around.

getting together during a season for most would be really, really rough. I know personally, this past summer was the first in 5 years that I was able to take a "true" vacation. There's a few guys on here from different regions that I talk with somewhat regularly. They are up north and it's interesting seeing the difference between my local and theirs.

I would be interested. We sound very similar in our Business goals and current position based upon your little spill there

Count me in if you will as well, I'm a one truck operation with some part-time help every now and then. While I haven't been doing this as long as some others and am relatively smaller, I'm looking to grow and share information across state lines. :waving:

Sounds great guys! I figure trying to get together the week of GIE Expo. Message me your names, numbers and facebook page if you have one and we will start getting something together. :cool2:
