I've read to MSMA, power rake, over-seed and fertilize in September...

But will "pulling" it out now, even if only some of it, help "whatever" Pre-emergent I decide to use in the spring?

IE: Can it come back from established roots or is it "new crabgrass" every year that come only from seeds?

Waste of time. Crab grass is an annual, it lives only one year. It puts out Millions of seeds that are viable for up to 15 years.

Have you guys tried the weed hound?

It's an amazing product, especially if you don't want to spread too much chemicals on your lawn.

What's more, it actually pulls the root right out. I've had no problems removing my isolated infestations of crabgrass here.

    Goodl luck

MSMA or Image can help control it as it grows, but the MAIN way to beat it back is to treat with a pre-emergent, I do mine in the early winter and the spring. The key to beating crabgrass is killing the seeds, as was posted above. Anything you kill/pull this year just helps this year. Killing the seeds in the ground will help all year around, and for future years to come.
