    This I sure will come easy to most of you but this is my second year and this one has stumped me. I have through page by page through my weed id books and I can't seem to find it. Hopefully the picture is attached. never attached a picture before. Thanks Mark

    Marsh marigold (caltha palustris)?? Often well established in damp and/or shady lawns.

    I looked up caltha palustris and it looks close. The flower of the caltha palustris has 5 pedals and the one I am trying to id has 8 pedals and they are pointed. The leaves are similar but not the same.

    They're famous for idiopathic weirdness - extra petals, lopsided leaves, etc..

    Very nearly impossible to control because of little bulblets as part of the root systems - and they're root spreaders on top of it all.
