as long as you don't just stand there and hold it pointed right at the roots for a long time it shouldn't be a problem. use common sense. it's not gonna kill the tree like it would a weed. obviously you don't wanna burn a big black spot on the root of the tree but even doing that it would be fine. a tree has many roots not just one.

trees are almost impossible to kill. if i could kill them with a propane torch i'd be doing that on every yard i mow. trees are terrible for grass and mowing in general.

Let me update this post. I have found that after 2 maybe 3 torchings most weeds do not survive. I'm liking it.:blob2::angry:

I have noticed the same thing. Usually the 2nd hit of fire it doesn't come back. Some need a third but have not had to hit the same weed more then 3 times.

How long did you wait till your 2nd run?

works on weeds but not on grass. grass comes back thicker and stronger.

Glad to hear the feedback. Weeds won’t stop here- doesn’t mean to torch a mulch bed. A cigarette can set one up. Seen that a few seasons ago

I've only been doing this on my property, but I've been killing weeds in my mulch beds without setting the mulch on fire. Just get weed "crispy" and move on the next one.

With it being dry and not wanting to start a fire with the weed torch I mixed up an organic home brew herbicide the other day to do the beds. For many years I've been playing around with the Homebrew herbicides to come up with a low cost natural one. The organic ones on the market today or like $10 a gallon to mix up.
Mine just about $3.50 a gallon to mix up.

I acidently came up with something that knocked out the weeds quickly and should kill the roots with a single application. I used 5% vinegar, some dish soap, some canola oil, some pool salt diluted in the vinegar and the accidental ingredient I will hold onto for now that will kill the roots and helped with quick wilting.
Dandelions and crabgrass in the sun it knocked out completely in one hour..
