In 27 years in this industry on and off between military deployments I was finally in a van accident. Now this all happened August 1. But as I lay in bed my back is thumping, I just get mad thinking about it. As I was heading towards the PA turnpike I had a 90 year old guy pull right out in front of me. Couldn’t avoid him. I did do my best not to hit him head on. I aimed for the back portion of his door as not to hit him dead on. Unfortunately doing that for me made all the damage on the drivers side. This meant all the kinetic energy from the collision transfered up into me. Well to say the least I have had a sore back since the accident. Did one mri and doctor says I have significant changes to my back. Missed 8 days of work and had to hire someone to do the heavy lifting for me. What really gets my goat is the guy was delivering bread for a local pizza shop. I have consulted a lawyer but the VA health care system is so slow. Ugh. Really just venting but has anyone else had a similar experience?

    Sorry to hear that Marine.
Only one minor accident in the last 37 yrs.
But had similar event last summer.
Driving thru town on 5 lane. Center lane is mutual turn lane.
I'm going 40mph the speed limit. Fully loaded truck and enclosed trailer.
A very old lady turns left directly in front of me. I've got all brakes locked and screaching, clouds of smoke rolling. She never even see's me coming at her broad side. I missed her by inches. She pulls into mall like nothing ever happened.

I had my truck out of service for a couple of weeks when I t-boned a car going to an ice cream shop. She cut through a hole in traffic, no where for me to go. She almost didn't get a ticket as she parked and got her ice cream while waiting. Cop thought it was a single vehicle accident. Never did figure out the thought process there. Fortunately no injuries.
    Hope you get well soon.

Wow you know people over 85 are 5 times more likely to have a car accident than a teenager. If I hit him head on I wouldn’t be in this pain. He be dead or gravely injured. Ugh. Well we will see what the neurosurgeon says soon.

Folks get a 50 dollar camera it’s called the roav from anker on Amazon. I just used it on a 89 year old lady that backed into a parts delivery car. Sent the file to the PD. She hit this guy and just drove away ugh. Video is your best friend. Also finally making cameras an option in some cars

We almost tboned a senior yesterday. Scared the crap out of me. She is very lucky I was paying attention and we were doing 60. She had no clue as she was turning left. Could of been really bad for her car vs my dually.

Ya they just don’t look left. I suggest a dash cam. My video proved without a doubt the 90 year old guy was at fault

That really sucks, hopefully you can have a full recovery. Other people's negligence cause a lot of pain.

I think it will be a long time coming but I feel good in the next few years I will be good to go. He was found at fault and his insurance has to pay for my medical treatment if I decide to go outside of the VA medical system. Which I am about too. They are just to slow.

I thought that now you have the choice to go outside the VA. I thought Trump adm. made some new law on that.
Either way, with back injury go to the best specialist you can find. Those types of injuries can haunt you forever.
Thanks for your serving this country btw.
