Yep, that's it. We dump a bag or two at the back of the bed; spreading it partially as we dump the bag; then spread the mulch towards us with our hands. I caution my guys against emptying too many bags at one time. That usually results in too much in one spot and not enough in another.

BTW, our wives and girlfriends just love that manly smell of mulch hands.

That figures i've calculated on is that it costs the same for bagged mulch or bulk mulch around here. But depending on how you're spreading it some ways are more efficient then others. For new landscapes with small plants = more ground i'll use bulk but for mature landscapes where you need to be more precise where you're dumping mulch i'll use bagged.
I typically charge $5 installed for a 2 Cu ft of mulch so do the math from there... 7.50 per bag for the big 3 cu ft.

I have never used bagged mulch, but we usually get $55-65 a square yard for bulk. Any redefining is extra. You really have to come up with your own prices cause everyone has different amounts of overhead and live in different parts of the country where prices vary drastically.

But since your using bags, $7.50 a bag sounds about right, for me atleast.

I was trying to make that point also. Market matters in pricing. Overhead varies so much: insurance, labor costs, equipment costs. But I think the young guy got some ideas from us, at least.

I don't do just one bag normally. In fact I have never done just one bag, I do it by the yard. The price is $65 a yard without barricade and $75 a yard with barricade.

If I have to weed the beds it is $30 an hour with a 2 hour minimum charge.

What????? 40 3cubic feet bags is less then a yard and a half!!! :nono:

$90.- a yard installed. if my cost is $30.- a yard, 2 yard minimum

your cost will be (30X 4.99 a bag =) $149.70 a yard... you do the calculation, it takes me less then an hour to spread a yard

$6.00 per bag (2 cu ft.) installed. $3.00 for bag, $3.00 install. Not quite as much profit as bulk but much easier and cleaner.
