A customer wants me to dig up these two trees pictured. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of trees these are. There are large roots growing on the surface of the ground from the tree which have been shifting the rocks around the trees.

From what I can tell it seems like it was a mistake to put these trees in this small yard with the roots the way they are.

Any ideas are appreciated!!

Maple trees I believe and since they are developing buds moving them now would be deadly to the them and the rocks are awful for the growth of a tree as a matter of fact. The do nothing for the tree when it comes to growth and if you tried to move the trees now it would probably die and these trees are huge to move by hand. I would cut them down and start over unfortunately.

Yes, the plan is to cut them down and throw them away. He wants to start all over like you said and get some type of smaller trees. Im trying to decide if I need some type of machinery or if I could just use my truck to rip some of it out and use an axe and shoves to get the roots out... anybody have any suggestions on pricing? Im thinking about $500 or $550 to take it out and haul off.

Removing the tree is the easy part and shouldnt take more than 20 or 30 mins for the tops of the trees combined. It will probably take about 2 or 3 hours to tear out those stumps and clean up the rocks and put down new soil to replace the rock beds. You should have about 5 total hours by the time you dump the trees and get rid of the rocks. I was thinking about $ 325 which would be fair and while your at it write up a proposal to plant his two new trees since you can do it all in one trip and make a nice profit for one trip and one stop. Too plant two Oaks 2 -- 3 inches in diameter and about 10' feet tall I would charge $ 380 per tree which includes a one year guarantee.

Cut the tops off with about 4-5 ft of trunk left. Take a chainsaw and put a notch on the back side about 4-6 inches off the ground. Take your loggers chain wrap it around the tree TWICE and then hook the chain onto itself near the trunk. Put the other end of the chain on the hitch of your truck and start tugging. When it starts coming out of the ground whack the roots with an axe.

I would only put one tree in that front yard...two of any variety seems like some serious over kill for that small of an area.

This method would look like the "Hillbilly Tree Service" You'll probably do more damage to your truck than it's worth. I would cut the trees at the 4 foot high mark. Throw the limbs into my chipper. Take my backhoe over there and dig out the stumps. load them into the dump truck, take them to the dump...$700

Those are probably FHA trees...They are required for an FHA mortgage. Zoning probably also require two trees for each house.

when you pull those out you're gonna make a huge mess of the yard, the roots go out pretty far on maples. make sure the home owner understands this.
