Please let's not turn this into a discussion about synthetic vs. conventional oil. In fact I would rather that not be brought up at all. I am just curious what weight oil you run in your mowers and other small 4-cycle engines.

Does the number of hours on the engine have any bearing on what weight of oil you chose to use?

strictly 10w 30 we change the oil on our machines weekly, so we do not worry about oil break down

omg! weekly? I use 10w 30 mobile one synthetic and change every 100 hours. One mower gas has run great since 1999 and one diesel that has run great since 1981 lol
Whatever floats your boat but it seems excessive--unless you put 50 or 100 hours on a machine a week

There are times when we may change once a week as well. IF everything is running for a 6 days at 10 - 12 hours, easy out and new back in. If change everything, we'll go thru 18 qts of oil, that is the small stuff. No diesel machines, no trucks.

Use the wt the manufacturer recommends.
My Kohler uses 10w-30 I'll will probably switch to synthetic 10w-30
Briggs/Daihatsu strait 30w or multi viscosity synthetic

Of course synthetic is better. There are reasons different manufacturers call for a particular weight to be used.

10W30 for a simple reason: 10W30 oils are SAE30 compliant but offer better protection on cold starts.
