i have a 2005 f-150 4x4 s-cab lariat with the triton 5.4 and i pull a 8x16 landscape trailer with 15,000 lb axles and gate and ramps for me to pull my L3410 kabota w/ mower ,box blade , and disc .i pull all of this with no prob at all .i paid $21,000.00 with everything you can put in a truck , definately not a stripped down model .but i also have very good friends at the dealership .

Any half ton does just fine. We pull both single and dual axle trailers with full load in town and on interstate. The F150 with long bed and small V8 is probably around $20K. We have a F250 and a F350 with Duals and both are essentially parked due to high gas usage. The best unit we got is a older chev 1/2 ton that sits low to ground, easy to get in/out and you can reach into the bed and tool box. All the big units are too tall for high use.

I would never buy new. Thats the worst investment anyone can ever make. I like fords so I drive a F-250. I would just look for a diesel with a little over 60k miles on it. I know its nice to have a new truck but once 1/4 of their life is gone you can buy for 1/3 of the new price. I would make sure to get a 1 ton or larger.

How much will you be pulling?

My personal opinion is a Dodge Ram with a Cummins diesel, which I feel is the best diesel engine of any of the Big 3.

CHEVY 2500 OR 3500 real nice trucks!!!!!!!

Chevy 2500HD, im not an expert and have only done it for a short time, but ive driven one of those Titans and i didn't like it too much. Just me though, they do look good, but i didn't like the feel of it, the four wheel drive doesn't do much IMO. Just my .02

If your just mowing and towing, and not plowing or doing any landdscape work...

Then I would opt for a 2 year old 2wd Halfton with trailer brakes. Doesnt matter if its a ford, chevy, or dodge to me, just as long as its an american car company.
Then both of you would be happy!:)

I started with a half ton truck, a Ford F 150. I still have it. It performes well towing.
I have a F-350 PSD dually flatbed to tow the trailer now.

Both are capable of doing the job. The difference in towing is like day and night between the two.

What is your budget? Both trucks are capable, but one has the extra capacity to do the job effortlessly.

Ford Chevy dodge

They will all get the job done at the end of the day

I have a Silverado now, its good at what it does, but these days I won't lean toward any specific brand.

If I were you get a cab over box truck used from say Office Depot and convert it to a mowing rig.

I like the NPR's, GMC's, and Mitsubishi.

Its enclosed so all you do is lock the gate at the end of the day.

And its short, shorter than a truck and trailer.

I dont really understand your post because in mine I say nothing about me looking to buy another truck. LOL

But yeah, I started with a dakota, then halfton. Im into heavy landscaping and have a 20ft trailer so I need a 3/4ton.

Plus I plow, personally I will NEVER get a 1/2ton for work again unless its strictly towing a 14ft open trailer for lawn's.
But that will never happen because I will always plow and landscape. I hate cutting grass.

I was just explaining to him that if hes not plowing or landscaping then no need for a big hd truck like everyone is saying.

Im selling my 3/4 ton so I can get a 1ton, ext cab, diesel. Not sure if its gonna be a chevy dodge or ford, but what ever is cheapest will be the winner.

Mid - Late 90's Chevy 2500 - 3500 Single Cab or EXT. with a 5.7 Gas. I would never use a new truck to pull mowers. I prefer old Early to late 80's GM.

My other choice would be an early Ford like 93-94 with a 7.3 N/A Diesel.

These trucks make good work trucks and are very reliable IF you find a good one.

I think ANY NON BIG 3 Truck Looks SIlly As a work truck other than a Cab over.

I have 4 chevy 2500hd. Reg cabs, ext cab and 4 door cabs. 2 half tons. They are strictly residential yard work trucks - each has a dump on them and they haul out bagged grass, trimmed bushes, tree branches - biggest trailer is a 16ft open trailer with no bigger than a 44 inch WB.

As I trade - they will be all 3/4. I plow, landscape, mow, spray - need them for the weight, engine, and overall power.

Either way - go with one of the 3 auto's at least.

In your signature line you state that you have a truck for sale....lawnman79 appears to be looking to buy...hammer ...just for fun.
If you look under my avatar, in my last post, you can see that I said "why don't you sell him yours?"

Get the biggest truck you can find. Heres a good one that should fix the bill weightlifter
Now that's a truck there. That could haul my future trailer pretty good 24ft enclosed.

I wouldn't go anything below 3/4 ton. My next two trucks will be 3500hdsrw pick-up and a 3500hd dump. The 3/4 ton and bigger will help you in the future if you plan to haul a bigger trailer. Much easier to stop the trailer. Easier to tow with too.
