When do you guys aerate and dethatch in the north east? Do you put seed down for both of them? Im wondering if early spring is a good time to do this.

I've always dethatched in the spring when I do the clean-ups and put seed down at the same time.

I know this isn't exactly 'northeast', but....

Most folks around here have fescue lawns anymore, primarily...so the idea of 'dethatching' has largely become a dinosaur from the past.

The small minority of folks that are gluten for punishment, and do have bluegrass lawns, are well-served if they'd had any dethatching / seeding work done in the early fall vs. the spring; largely to avoid any monsoon-type spring weather problems getting out on the lawns..... and / or not having to worry about altering the timing of spring apps of pre-emergent because of spring seed germination needs.
