When to trim crape myrtles?

    I was heard to trim them after winter when freezing temps are all but done with. I see guys trimming them now in early January. Let me know. Thanks

    Not sure in your area but folks start trimming them here as soon as they go dormant. Thinking you can go for it.

    I do them the same time I do roses. Late February. If cut to early and growth appears. A late frost will damage the growth.

    I see people do them in October which blows my mind.early October with blooms still on them. But its always"crape murder" when I see it done in October.

    We start now through March, just depending on size and customers need. If they get freeze burn early they usually recover (new growth) first chance they get, pretty resilient trees.

    He's in Orlando though, rarely gets cold enough long enough to harm new growth on a crape myrtle around here (central fl). Some of my customers want them cut back as soon as they start dropping leaves which can happen as early as October\ November.
