In NJ I know theres core classes that are the following.
    Basic Pesticide.(which all must take)
Then theres 3a for Pest, trees shrub, bush
    3b Turf, Fert & lawn.
    also 7a & 7b
Which of these do you need to just apply Herbicides?

You will need to take a minimum of 2 exams to get certifide as a pesticide applicator. The core is mandatory for all applicators regardless of the category you are specializing in. If you haven't already I would suggest you take the Free CORE course in Trenton, as that is needed to be able to progrsss to the Category training. PCPNJ.ORG is where you want to go.
IMO if you are starting a business you may want to wait till next year and do JUST fert. and lime and sub out the pesticides this year, since this all will take some time. Otherwise if you are becoming an applicator working for someone, they should be giving you the info needed to move on. Regards & Good Luck!
