So I am definitely buying a Toro 48" grandstand and am buying a 60" ZTR... Which ZTR should I get:
--Toro 60" Z550 28HP Kawasaki for $7,799
--Toro 60" G3 27 HP Kohler for $8,199

Let me know which one you think I should get and why...

I personally would go with the G3 I dont know why I guess I just like the new style. But one of my local dealers had the same two mowers for sale in the showroom and he told me he would suggest the Z550 because the new G3 has alot of electrical things that are costly to fix if they were to go out. Compared to the other model witch doesn't or something like that. So he was suggesting the the Z550 for that reason. So its more up to you cause you could save the money and buy a really nice backpack blower or trimmer or spend a little extra for the G3 either way there both good mowers.

i would ask this...

Have you demo'ed both machines?
IMO, I have... And the new Toro G3 is a totally different machine from a Z500 series, better different. Plus you get a better warranty with the G3. Don't look into the 27hp vs 28hp both are good engines with kohler having th advantage in this size. 400 bucks more, new better designs, better warranty.....?

The G3 does look kinda cool and definately looks like a good design. But the z550 has been around for a while and proven itself. I really think both would do you just fine, I think this would be more of a personal preference thing though.

Sounds like a good price on those. What do you guys think about the value retention of the two?

Just as an FYI-
A Toro dealer I know has brand new 2006 Diesel ZTR's (23 hp Kubota engine) with 60" deck he is selling for $8,800. Brand new these retail in the 14k neighborhood. Comes with the Toro 2 yr warranty as well. I believe these also have the nice full suspension seat standard. Feel free to call me at 567 712 0585 if interested. He is in Arkansas.

The advantages of the G3 are the 5 year warranty and lower center of gravity. If you live where there are hills, you will really appreciate the performance advantage of the G3. If you don't have hills, that probably doesn't matter as much.
