Question do you need to purge when you replace a hydro pump on a scag? and if so do you just loosen the filter like on the Exmarks? Since the hydro pump was rebuilt this thing seems to whine awfully loud.

Jack up the rear of the unit where there is no load on the pumps,Start the unit and at 1/2 throttle move the sticks full swing foward to reverse do this 8 or 10 times then at full throttle. This should purge any air from the system.

If this doesn't help there may be a problem with the pump rebuild.

I agree with Rob, that is how the dealer told me to change out the fluid and work the air out of the system
