In regards to residential clientelle, what kind of people do you prefer to work for? I don't mean the size of their bank accounts, or the size of their homes. I am talking about their personalities. I honestly prefer working for people who will offer you cold drinks and a little food. The kind of people who will leave you be when you really need to get stuff done, but will walk the property with you when they want some work done. The kind of people who will just stop and shoot the ---- with you for a few minutes. Am I alone on this one or no?

All of my customers are like that. They all have six digit incomes, 8,000sf homes, and will spend what is necessary to make them look nice. They always have time to walk the property, and often do. That is how I end up with lots of little "extras". I even had a couple call me and told me not to come over on my sceduled day because it was to hot. I assured them that I would be ok.

We definitely prefer to work for someone who is easy to get along with, but as was stated, so long as they pay the bill!
It's more of a bonus to have customers you can talk to openly for a while, as you communicate easier on a more comfortable level. If I had a chioce, they would all be the friendly type, offering us cold drinks.

We just had a new bush job yesterday where the man offered us cold water 10 minutes after we started. We told him maybe when we are done. After all was said and done, he was happy with the job, got paid right there, and booked aerating job on the spot.

I'll take a customenr like that anyday!:D

My favorite customers are widows. They pay my invoices the instant they receive them, and seem to really appreciate me.

Some are a little picky, but I'd rather work for someone who knows what they want then someone who doesn't...and only knows that what you did isn't it.

The trick is not getting into a 1/2 hour conversation with them every time you service the lawn!

Beach cottages owned by part-time residents are my least favorite. It seems they only want the lawn mowed when they plan to be in town, my invoices go unpaid, and they sometimes claim I didn't mow when I say I did.

The ones that give me a completely free rein, let me take care of their prop as when and where I see fit, and don't bust my nads over the price of everything.

I need more of those. I like to call them ghost accounts. I currently have about a dozen or so like that. It seems to me that ghost accounts are few and far between. The rest of mine will wear you out, just lonely and wanting someone to talk to.

I prefer to work for those people that I never see. Not that I don't people or talking to them, but time is money.

I am wilth Walker-talker. I like to get it done and over with so that I can get home early and enjoy my kids.
I will talk for a while if I have the time, but most of my customers know I run a tight schedule so a simple hello and good bye work for both of us.

I have a few customers that just tell me to do things without requesting an estimate. I'm not talking about little things either...things like topdress/overseed, low voltage lighting, brush clearing...lots of other stuff as well. I charge them accodingly for the work we do, and everyone is happy.

my fav customers to work for are the ones that you never see throughout the entire year. You just do the work and they pay you, no questions at all. I love those types

I currently have a customer that lives in a $3,000,000 home that cherishes his grass. He and his wife are very familiar with the market, and never go with the lowest bidder on anything unless the company has an impecable record. Never have to worry about a scab moving in on that account. Not only that, but gave me free reign over his property. Just told me to do what's necessary and bill him accordingly. Key to keeping his account is to never over bill them. They just want great work at a fair price.

No PITA period. Not worth it. I spend to much time worring about poor old Mrs. Olsen sending me home because she did not think that the lawn needed to be done. After you drop a few you will see how much better yoiu feel when getting up and a pita is not the first on my mine in the morning of a work or worst a week end day.
All of my clients are on a yearly service aggrement. "turn Key" I get almost no calls from them unless they need their yard done for a weekend party which case means that their lawn will be done on its regular day and also on late Friday or a special Saturday mow. I don't have to sell aeration, ferts, ph adjustments , top dress, etc. I just do it! and give them the best lawns possible. Any the pay the most and the best.

Happy Clients only apply here.

I prefer to work for the hottie who waits till I get there before she lays out by the pool.
Have a customer who does just that.I get there, she comes out in a bikini.Always needs a hand with the suntan lotion.I do this before getting started to work. When I finish working she usually has me come over and and re-apply lotion.
I think she's flirting with me.
She always waits on me no matter what time I make it to her home.I usually wake up shortly there-after.:D

I agree with jsr2741. My very best customer is blue collar. He got mad at his wife for not mailing my check the same day she received the statement. He knows the value of hard work. He cracks me up too because he tries to work the fact that he builds gas stations into every sentence.

Hey Georgiagrassman,
he must be related to this painter I have as a client.
I know exactly what you mean...
"I am going to aerate next week..."
"ok, my last house I painted they were aerating at"
"This mower was made in Kentucky"
"I painted this apartment complex in Kentucky once"

This guy painted something in every town in every state I ever heard of!

Too funny sometimes!
