Just wondering who all protects there hearing? I started about 5yrs ago using the simple plugs. Does any body use the radio headsets. I'm thinking about getting a radio headset this coming season.:headphones: Does this defeat the purpose? I think it would be nice if you have a big lawn to cut.:canadaflag:
I learned to use hearing protection when I started working near a diesel chipper all day. those things are LOUD. my hearing isnt great as it is, and I'd like to keep it as good as I can, so I try to wear protective gear whenever I can.
Always, and my guys must wear them and safety glasses anytime they are running equipment. If I find them not using them 2 times I let them go. Definitely a required part of the uniform.
the radio/hearing protectors are great. it does not defeat the purpose, the hearing protectors protect your ears from the really loud noises and certain frequencies that are harmfull to humans. the radio adds a sound that can be set at a level that won't harm your ears, but that is after all of the harmfull sound levels have been filtered out
I wear full muff ear protection on any piece of machinery. I spent too many years at concerts when I was younger and I'm already partially deaf, I don't want it to get worse.

I and my employees use hearing protection on everything from a 21" mower and up.
Any handheld gas equipment, anything with a internal combustion engine and the protection is there.
Not only is this a required facet of my uniform policy, I will royally ream a new hole for any one not wearing the ear protection and eye protection I provide.
Additionally, I will not and will never allow non employees near equipment when it is running. Provided a customer wishes to speak with any member of my crews, they are for-warned to keep their distance and attract the attention of whomever it is they wish to speak to.
And yes, I have chastised customers as well.
I use the work tunes. I bought a satelite radio and it plays through my work tunes radio. Its small so I just stick it in my pocket and away I go. I listen to unsensored comedy while I work.
what did you say? i could'nt hear you. a childhood of working in my family's factory, combined with shooting untold thousands of rounds from various guns, with a twist of multiple rock concerts has rendered me hearing-impared. but it's nice when the wife is complaining or the kids are fighting. seriously, by the time i realized what was happening, it was too late. i would recommend protection to anyone in the business. i can now shoot my .45 without plugs and it doesn't hurt which is REALLY wrong.
Does anybody use just the ipod-style earbuds when running mowers and trimmers? I know it would be better than nothing, but I'm afraid it may not be enough.

I wear the muff type when mowing and put the buds under the muffs. my freind try sitting on the z with those in, you cant hear $h!t unless you have the muffs
hope this helps:waving:
