Why are gator blades not recommended for mulching?

The G6 blade is a High lift type blade. Instead of mulching and throwing the grass/leaves back into the grass it lifts everything in the deck causing heavy load on the mower. For mulching you want a blade with no life
So the blades that come on most mowers from the factory are high lift blades for side discharging right?

Correct. Either high lift or standard lift blades. The gators are just designed to chop stuff up finer before it gets shot out the side. If you try to use them for mulching they create lots of turbulence under the deck because of the amount of lift and are designed for discharging. True mulching blades chop up the grass more then drive it back down into the turf and have very little lift

I use the gator blades on the mulching mowers and I'they cut better than the wavy blades every time used wavy blades little strips and strangler blades of grass were left behind since used the gator blades never have a problem and we sharpen the blades daily so there always sharp the wavy blades just didn't work good in Florida Saint Augustine grass for us

I see. That's what it does on my exmark 21" gets clogged in heavy grass, but at least it cuts better than the standard blades which left a ton of stragglers and uncut areas.

Good to know though. I'm going to stick with the wavy mulch blades that came with my kit on my gravely. They seem to do a fine job. Not a straggler to be seen.
i actually bought a set of gator blades for my compact pro and love them. you get both the mulching and the high lift in one blade. when folks say you cant use them for mulching the mean that you cannot install these blades in a closed system mulching kit. because they have high lift it causes issues with to much grass being stuck under the deck.

gators are designed to mulch the grass while side discharging, hence the menacing look.

They mulch great don't use on a mulch setup mower though lol

If you are only mulching the leaves and not side discharging them into a bagger then low lift may be great but, I would think that most people who are using a bagger that mounts onto the side discharge would appreciate some Gator blades with high lift. I try to run over the yard at least once blowing to the inside and chopping up the leaves all I can before I start bagging them with my Accelerator bagger. If you don't run over the leaves at least once then your bagger will be filled up within moving 10 ft.

I have a 61" Husky hydro walk behind it has a 23 Kawasaki on it. It had G6 I believe when I bought it her. Then installed low lifts, with the gators it mulched better trows the clippings farther and it used less power. With the low lifts seem to suck grass better but the clippings don't get thrown as far as the G6. Why is so? and I can hear the engine working a little harder. I putting those G6 back!

It depends on the design of the mower deck and how the baffles are arranged. I have been running G5 Oregon gators on my BOP Q44 with the mulch plate installed. Overall these are my favorite blades on this mower for mulching.
:waving:
I use a low lift gator that I have removed all the fingers except the last two. on a proline 21 , with a few deck mods you can getaway with minimal lift. Wet grass and lift don' do well together. I have mulched exclusively for about 10 years now. You learn a lot of tricks to make it work. Study the walker wavy blade mulch decks for mod clues. Those guys are the king of airflow tech and pressure for QOC.
