Trimmers are similar to blowers. When you run them at less than full throttle, carbon tends to build up causing poor performance. If you run them at full throttle, carbon will not accumulate near as much and thus giving you increased performance for a longer time.

With that said, I run mine at both half and full throttle, just depends on the conditions and area that I'm cutting. If I'm cutting near delicate areas or near cars/windows, I try to run at half throttle. Otherwise, I usually run at full.
