Hello, Well I have lurked here for a while now reading and taking in the info. I am about to make my 1st purchase in the Zero Turn Market. I have narrowed it down to Scag at this point. Many of my neighbors and friends have these (some for commercial) and they all say positive things. I will be using this for residential use myself. I will be cutting about 2 acres, open space for the most part, fairly level, a hump or 2 here and there but nothing major. At times I might help my farther cut his grass, when he’s not feeling up to it. He cuts about 1+ acre with many more trees to deal with then I.

Right now I am looking at 2 choices.

    Wildcat 52’’ with 25 Kawasaki.
Wildcat 61’’ with the 27 Kohler. ( I am pretty sure this is the vertical)

The 61’’ in is only $200 more then the 52’’ as described.

From reading comments here, a lot like Kawasaki and others like the Kohler just as well.

I tend to lean towards the Kawasaki as well and maybe the 52’’ might be more maneuverable then the 61’’

Your advice and thoughts would be great….thanks!

Go with the 52" like you said yourself a lot more manuverable.

"about 2 acres, open space for the most part, fairly level"
I would go with the 61 for a faster cut, and more deck overhang which will help with trimming. If those aren't important then the 52 will likely have less scalping due to the narrower and shorter (front to back) deck size. You'll love either one though.

How about the 25 Kawasaki vs. the 27 Kohler? Or am I now opening up a “Ford vs. Chevy” type of debate. For my case, is there any huge performance and or reliability issues.

no, both are good engines. pick the one you want and like the most.

personally, id go with the 61", ONLY and only if you'll be cutting wide open space. if you have to cut some more difficult spaces, go with the 52". JMO

I own both of these mowers. For what you are describing, the 52" would be better suited. I personally like the Kawasaki better, but there is nothing wrong with Kohler. You will enjoy this mower,Scag is the best in my opinion. Good luck!

After buying a 52" TT a month or so, I would get the 61" if I did it all over again. I'd do it for a little more deck and the 29hp Kaw.

The two main reasons I got the 52": 1) It's what I had before and thought it'd be easier to adapt. 2) Trailer. I've got a 7X16 that would make for a tight fit with a 61"

(The 7X16 is a similar story. I thought I'd have PLENTY of room going from a 5X10 open to a 7X16 enclosed. Should have listened and got an 8X18 enclosed).

I like the wider deck for trimming. It will save you a lot of trimmer time and reach out further past the wheels. I wish my 61" Tiger had a few more inches on the trim side to get under those low tree's and bushes. I don't have any trouble maneuvering a 61" but I don't know your situation. As far as engines, either one should be fine.

Ferris makes an awesome ZTR I have a 52in 25hp kawasaki and it will run circles around John Deere and Gravely I mow commercially and Ferris is the best for me this far What is the blade revolution time for the Scag? My Ferris is 19,000turns a minute

He said that he's narrowed it down to SCAG. Never figured out why when someone asks a question about a specific manufacturer, people wanna tell how great the mower they got is better than all the rest.

Not to be an a**, but we all think the mower, truck, blower, trimmer, etc is the best out there.
