That was my thought. It would be an hour on county roads, no interstate.
Do you have any friends with a truck that is equipped to pull this trailer? If not then I think I would just plan to use your 3/4 ton and schedule to pick the trailer up and tow it home after dark, assuming you can get the trailer lights to work with your truck.
Like others have said, plenty of distance between vehicles ahead, watch your speed, and try to set the truck hitch high enough to run the trailer fairly close to level.
Sometimes you just have to do what you can with what you have, just don't make a habit out of it.
How are either of these under his control?
Anyway sounds like a sketchy idea, I am sure you could find one of those towing companies on Craigslist that will have the right equipment and if its only an hour probably won;t cost much.
I mean you spend 2k on the trailer, do you want to save the $200 transportation fee and risk wrecking the trailer or killing someone?
Just take the dump truck. You need a class A towing with that trailer with anything. You less likely to get pulled over in a dump truck then pulling it with a 3/4 ton pick up I would think
I'm sure he would like to but he mentioned he doesn't have his A license yet. I'm guessing this trailer is probably the missing link to having the equipment he needs to go for his test.
Needs a class A to pull it with a 3/4 ton under ideal conditions. Dont be cheap get someone with a cdl to do it for you, you'll need them the day of your roadtest also.

bingo! I figured it would be a little less conspicuous towing with the pickup but maybe not. Either way Id tow it back around 7 in the evening. I can always just bring a guy that works for me occasionally along to be legal...
someone up north is jealous.....
Eager Beaver makes a great trailer, I bought a 10 ton late last year, did tow it home with my 3/4 ton over the usa border too....
It is only 6000 pounds though...
If I had to I would do what you are thinking on a sunday evening or something and take it slow...
And I worry about towing 13k with an F350 DRW..
I wouldn't take a chance of needing brakes and not having them. I also wouldn't tow an obvious CDL combo without having the proper license and tags.
Find someone to move it for you... We can all use a good friend with a dump truck and a hitch.
