Right now I have a 33" Sutech Stealth with a plate and mulching blades. It mulches fine until you get into thick grass. Now I understand that it is much harder to mulch in thick grass, but its the kind of thick where my 21" push mowers can mulch it fine with no clippings showing. Now there are 2 areas on the front where grass can pile up and then drop (no baffles and I don't think they make any for this mower).

Now if I get a 36" or 48" mower with a mulch kit (baffles, blades, and chute plug) will this mulch really well? I am looking at a BOBCAT 48" (actually might be a 54, looked HUGE) with a 20 hp Kohler engine. It should have the power to mulch thick grass, but I want to insure that I don't have to make multiple passes all the time (sometimes I know its unavoidable).

Do most recent mowers mulch pretty well with mulch kits? I think the Sutech has a lot of trouble just because the blades are only 12"s across and only the far tip does much of any cutting (blade speed). I think a 2 blade 36" set up would be much better.

Thanks.

Lots of guys on here bash the Sutech. Took me 3 cuts to master the thing but I live in Maryland and it leaves no clippings that you can see. My lawn is well fertilized and grows quite fast. I even invested in Gator blades but havent need ed them. I have the original blades on with the chute up and usually go to first speed in tall or wet grass. I have never installed the mulch kit since it works fine the way it is.. Have fun..Glenn

yes, that maybe true but going downhill speed 1 turns into speed 10 very fast. Most fun Ive had since Disneyworld

Still kinda new to the whole thing, BUT, when youre discharging, dont ya take the mulch kit, and hence the chambers off??

I was just saying that fewer, larger blades will cut better than more, smaller blades.

This is because if the deck size from front to back is longer there is more time for the grass to come back up straight (front of deck pushes it down) and be cut cleanly. I have learned this the hard way through buying a 33" mower with 3 12" blades hehe.

Well I don't want to argue, but with that theory a "21" trim mower with only "1" chamber should clump even less, which unless things have changed is not the case. Would you care to reiterate your point???

You cant discharge with chambers(baffles). Mulching cant discharge, it stays within the chambers. Even if you were discharging, 3 blades are better than 2. The left side of the "strip" will have to pass through 2 or 3 blades, therefore resulting in finer clippings, less clumping.
