Well I want to offer dethatching this spring, and was allready to get a dethatcher for a great deal and the guy sold it to someone else. Well I was told I would be better off with a mower attachemnt dethatcher any ways. Well a font mount one for a walk behind seems pricy but I was looking on line and came across a fromt mount dethatcher for a tractor. Do you think I could manage to hook one up to a wb or is it not going to work well.http://www.amazon.com/Agri-Fab-Front-Mount-Dethatcher-Sweepers-45-0343/dp/B000NBJ9K8

I'm guessing money may be a little bit of an issue?

I know you may not be doing alot of dethatching (as much as some people do) but the one your looking at on amazon just doesn't look like it would last very long. And it only has one row of tines, so the amount of thatch you could actually get up with that unit will be only half (if not less) than the amount a JRCO type one can get up.

I have said before that my JRCO dethatcher is one of the best investments I have ever made for my business. It paid for itself within about 4-5 hours. The first day I used it, it paid for itself twice over. It is an expensive up front cost, about $450 for a 46" model from JRCO, but the high quality craftsmanship and heavy duty design will make sure that it lasts for quite a while. At least consider JRCO, they are a very good product and if you want to offer tine rake dethatching, they are the best in the market.

For the few dethatching jobs I have done, I have just used a Brinly double row tow behind and I used a John Deere STX38. Works great. I don't normally do it, only if the client asks.

It doesn't look like it would be too hard to hook it up if you have the tools and time, you'll probably need to have welding equipment or providers available though.

Have you though about renting a dethacher for a day or two?

I do have time before the season starts where I could do this. I have thought about it but they are really expensive to rent around here so I think I might as well buy somthing

I do have a tractor that I could use but it does not run now so I would have to fix it and get the dethatcher I do not really feel like doing that

possible i dont do much dethatching but im pretty sure a rented machine would do a better job you would just have to figure the rent price into your quote im thinking about trying this out this year
Well it is 22.50 an hour around here so I think I would be better off spending 379 on a crapsman dethatcher:laugh: I think the crapsman would be allright for me since I am doing not much as well. But I cant trust crapsman

The pull behinds work pretty good, my neighbor has one and he seems to be pleased. I usually just rent a bluebird from a local landscaper here, but on some of my accounts they want to have it done the old fashion way, with a rake. I dont mind doing it, what ever the customer wants.

I bought a bluebird walkbehind dethatcher this year and it works awesome. It really gets all the thatch up. I also have the jrco for my walkbehind mower and it works good if you stay on top of it every year but it doesn't get down to the soil as good as the bluebird. Whichever you choose you should be ok . You should check on craigslist. I have seen alot of them on there for cheap money. Good luck this year.
