Workers pay

    What do people pay their workers.. Not foreman, straight forward laborers..
    Has anyone salaried their foreman.. If so, what kind of ball park...
    Do those with a crew.. Do you pay workers,
    From arrival at the shop
    From leaving the shop
    From arrival on the first job.
    And on the return leg, do you pay from end of the job
    or arrival back at the shop

    I pay $9 per hour labour. Pay from arrival at the shop until return to the shop..... However, I am concerned at the time lag from arrival to first cut.. So am considering a change of policy.
    I am about to create my 1st supervisor role and guidance on hourly rate or salary would be helpful.. Thanks :drinkup:

    Once they are in your vehicle you have to pay them. Waiting until first stop is a no-no to the labor board. I run three 2 man crews. One is a lead man, the other an operator. I or the wife jump in on larger jobs or sick calls. Leads are paid 13, operators start at 10. I seem to be a little higher than most in Tampa, but these are either family or friends of family.

    Two of the largest operators round here pay from picking up the equipment... Even driving some round for hours to a job.. But not paying until on site, So thanks for the info.. Guess I stay as I am, and get them on site quicker!
    I was considering pay rises, going into quiet time. Minx

    Leagally salaried employees must have some kind of administrative duty with several employees under their supervision, as far as I know.

    Just because a big company does it doesn't mean its right. They may bet on the fact that the employees don't know any better or have legal issues they can hold over them. Salary can cost you more in the slow season than paying hourly.

    IMHO At $ 9.00 an Hour you should being paying them from the Time they wake up in the morning to get ready to go to work. How anyone can live on that kind of money is be on me. I bet I could collect aluminum cans and make more money.

    No skill labor...the pay should fit the skill ....cost of living is secondary...experience and employee retention will make the wage go up ...quality of work and loyalty command more in my book

    They are on trainee pay.. others are on 11.25.. My trainees are again on more than the big boys I mentioned.... One had a supervisor on 9.50....... so I definitely know, just because they're large doesn't make them right. I just didn't want to get it wrong myself. Mine are just verrrrry slow getting from the shop to the first cut.. It should take no more than 20 mins and they're taking up to 45 mins. I need to sharpen them up... And that's after they've done 30 mins morning maintenance..
    I was thinking around $13 for a supervisor.. I may need a manager/ supervisor, as I may not be well enough in the coming months to cover some of t on my own..s I was thinking (toying with) salaring a manager to some admin scheduling but with some shop work ( maintenance) and exercising some quality control/ supervision.

    Those cheap working employees cost you alot more than you think me

    Where do you guys get any employee worth a darn for 9.00? Labor starts with us at 14.00 as the min. The high end is in the high 20's but this is for the tree guys.

    We have plenty of gov work that req living wage salary.

    You really get what you pay for. If they cant live on what you pay them what kind of employees are you hiring?
