I hoping to get some advice here. I know the cummins motor has a good reputation, but how many miles is too many??? The truck is loaded and very clean. The price is $9000 negotiable. I'm concerned it may break me up in repair costs and tow bills! It has a 5 speed manual and was replaced at 200000, then replaced again at 450000, finally at 457000 it needed 5th gear/reverse replaced. Sounds like alot of tranny repairs! Is it a good risk? The truck was suppose to used for escorting wide loads and one owner. What would be a good price? I don't plan on driving it everyday.

I forgot to mention it is 4x4. Would a 6 speed manual fit in it? How much is a 6 speed tranny? I can install it myself.

that's a lot of miles in a light duty truck. the motor may be ok, but the rest of the truck is probably worn out. maybe some dodge owners will chime in...I think that is way too much money for that truck

    1. I would never buy a truck with that many miles on it. Awesome motor but NEVER would I touch it.

    2. If I did, the price would be about $3000-$4000 range.

    3. Find a decent gas truck with under 100,000 miles on it for about $10,000. You would be alot better off.

    Just my humble opinion.

    9k is a ripoff... you can find a '99 dodge cummins 2500 w/ 100k for about 11-12k.

Well a lot of opinions, so here is mine. I own a Dodge with the legendary Cummins, but that is a lot of miles period. I bought mine for 5500.00 at 136,000 miles. The engine is rated for 500,000 miles I believe, that from Cummins themselves. The problem is the truck with that many miles on it be it Ford, or Chevy or what ever. Would I buy it? NO

    JMO Good luck, Tony
