we are care-taking a lawn of a neighbor while she is away..we would like to make it nice for her return..We have had a very dry summer (Upstate New York/Ontario,Canada).

This summer, she has not watered her lawn at all. It was very brown when she left.We want it to be nice when she returns. so

..we have begun to water it..have also removed lot of thatch,,and mowed it 'long'...have watered it for about two weeks now.
Most of it is coming back nicely and greening up.

One spot is very brown,however..we do not know what the cause is..do not think it is insects..may be drainage..but not visibly so..
It does not seem to be greening up at all..

Here we are in August..Would you recommend that we put down soil over the existing brown grass ,and re-seed with seed which states on package:"for hard to grow areas"..(generic seed..probably fescue and mix),and water daily..

could we start new grass growing now doing the above..?

    or what would you recommend?

    many thanks,
